Where the data comes from, and what we do with it.

We'd rather explain this plainly than ask you to take it on faith.

Where ratings come from

Every rating and review count labeled Google on del2eat is pulled from public Google Business listings. We don't alter it, round it favorably, or hide bad ratings. If a restaurant has a 3.2 average, that's what shows.

Ratings labeled Yelp or Facebook are only shown once a restaurant owner claims their profile and connects that account. Until then, the profile says so honestly instead of leaving a fabricated number in its place. We will never publish a rating we can't source.

How search results are ordered

When you search a zip code, results are sorted by distance. When you sort by rating or review count, that's exactly what it says, calculated from the real numbers above. There is no paid placement, no "featured" tier that jumps a restaurant ahead of a better match, and no ad auction deciding what you see first.

Listed versus verified

Every restaurant starts on del2eat as a listed profile: information we've compiled from public sources, so diners have something accurate to search from day one. We're a neutral party at this stage, we don't take a restaurant's side or a diner's side, we just organize what's already public.

When an owner reaches out to claim their listing, we confirm they actually run the business before handing over control, typically by calling the phone number already on file. Once that's done, the listing is marked verified and the owner controls it directly: hours, website, and links to their other review platforms. We won't let someone claim a restaurant that isn't theirs, and we won't sit on a real owner's request either. Neutral until it's claimed, firm about who gets to claim it.

Hours, phone numbers, and addresses can go stale between our updates. We'd always rather a restaurant tell us we're wrong than leave outdated information up, verified or not.

What we collect from you

Searching del2eat doesn't require an account. If you search by zip code, that zip code is sent to a third-party postal lookup service (Zippopotam) to convert it into an approximate location, and used only in your browser to sort results by distance. We don't store your searches or your location. See our Privacy Policy for the full detail.
